CHC Huntorf Storage

EWE GASSPEICHER GmbH (“EWE”) is currently developing and constructing a new hydrogen storage facility at the Huntorf site, which will be among the first of its kind in Germany. In this context, EWE intends to make firm hydrogen storage capacities available at an early stage to actively support the ramp-up of the hydrogen market.

The storage services offered relate to a 15-year period from 1 January 2030 until 31 December 2044. The tender process begins on 27 July 2026, at 09:00h and ends on 29 July 2026, at 18:00h. During this phase, bids can be submitted for the two bundles offered (Alpha/Beta).

Bundle Alpha includes a working gas volume of 11.2 million Nm³ and an injection and withdrawal rate of 24,500 Nm³/h each. Bundle Beta includes a working gas volume of 4.8 million Nm³ with an injection and withdrawal rate of 10,500 Nm³/h each.

Each bundle is available only once.

Participation in the tender requires successful registration. The registration phase ends on 16 July 2026, at 18:00h. The registration process requires the complete submission of the relevant documents in accordance with the registration instructions.

The storage facility is connected to the delivery point of the hydrogen core network (“Wasserstoff-Kernnetz”) of the transmission system operator Gastransport Nord (GTG). Transportation capacities are not included in the storage products.

Alterations of the tender procedure at short notice are reserved.
